Your low energy is a red flag for your fertility
Do you ever feel like you just don’t have the energy to workout or even cook for yourself?
Do you find yourself saying things like, “Let’s just get takeout" when your fridge is full of food that you’re too tired to cook?
I’ve been there!
When I used to eat a vegetarian diet in college, I was always so exhausted, I had to nap multiple hours a day, and was chronically hungry. I woke up drained and felt like this was “just my normal”.
But now that I’m out of it, I can tell you with 100% confidence that feeling tired and sluggish all the time is NOT NORMAL.
If you're struggling with low energy on your conception journey, that's a major red flag to start looking a little deeper.
Improving your energy on your fertility journey not only prepares you to become a more resilient mother, but it also improves your fertility.
Here’s why improving your energy will improve your fertility
Your body (and that includes your ovaries) runs on ATP generated by your mitochondria.
When you feel tired, sluggish and slow, it’s a sign that your mitochondria are not effectively producing enough energy.
Most human cells have around ~2000 mitochondria, but human egg cells have as many as 600,000!
So if your mitochondrial energy production is suffering, guess what else is suffering?
Ding ding ding!
You guessed it, ATP production is extremely important for highly metabolically active cells such as sperm and egg cells. When mitochondrial function declines, so does sperm and egg quality.
Because your mitochondria are responsible for carrying out all the essential tasks for the body, especially fertility, when their performance is suboptimal, well, so will your fertility.
Without adequate mitochondrial function, egg cells are not able to generate enough ATP for their many many processes, and they are rendered unable to grow, divide or implant properly.
One of the first things my clients often report back to me after implementing my recommendations is:
“I have so much more energy!”
Improved energy is a great sign that hormones are coming back into balance.
And when your energy starts improving, everything else gets easier, including the positive habits that will further improve your fertility like cooking at home or moving your body more!
The great news is that: this is 100% in your power to change!
I know it can feel out of reach sometimes, but I’m here to guide you through every step of the way. Remember, I was there too once! I used to crash multiple times a day and could barely keep my eyes open most of the time. I recovered my fertility AND my well-being and now have the energy to chase 2 high-energy boys around all day!
You don't have to feel like a victim anymore. When you're ready to make change and see just how much is in your control to increase your chances of conceiving and birthing a healthy child, I'm here for you. You don't have to have all the answers right now, that's what I'm here for.
But you do have to have a willingness, to expand, challenge yourself, and grow into the resilient mother you were meant to become.

I recently had a fertility nutrition client who reported at our follow-up visit having:
Improved satiety between meals
More energy
coming home after work with enough energy to workout (and feel restored rather than depleted)
Increased activity
Able to do higher intensity in her peloton workouts now with more energy. Strength training 3 days a week, feeling stronger.
Improved body composition
Feels like legs are thinning out (always more weight in butt and hips)
Why are these improvements relevant to fertility?
Stable appetite between meals is a sign of blood sugar balance.
Blood sugar balance promotes healthy hormone production (like estrogen, progesterone, testosterone, thyroid, cortisol, melatonin (and more!)
Energy (ATP) is needed to run every function of the ovaries.
No energy = reduced ovarian capacity
Movement is life.
With the ability to move more often and strength train at increased intensities, she's preparing her mindset, metabolism and her protein stores for motherhood.
Arriving at a more optimal body composition supports healthier estrogen and testosterone levels
There is an enzyme called aromatase in the fat tissue that is responsible for converting testosterone into estrogen, not only will having low testosterone tank your libido but having excess estrogen can also significantly impact your fertility and menstrual cycle. This is a hormonal state referred to as “Estrogen Dominance”. Read more about why hormone balance is so important for fertility here.
