Why You’re Still Thirsty During the Bahá’í Fast (And What to Do Instead)

Why am I still thirsty during the Baha'i Fast no matter how much water I drink before sunrise?

If you've ever asked yourself “Why am I so thirsty during the Bahá’í Fast?”

or thought “I drink tons of water before sunrise but I’m still parched by mid-morning,” you’re not alone.

This is one of the most common struggles I hear from Bahá’í women trying to stay energized and hydrated during the 19-day Fast.

If that’s you, keep reading—because there’s a better way to hydrate.

Why Chugging Water Isn’t Working During the Bahá’í Fast

Tell me if this sounds familiar:

  • You guzzle glass after glass of water before sunrise, hoping it will last you through the day.

  • You force it down even when you're not thirsty—just in case.

  • But an hour later? You’re running to the bathroom.

  • And by mid-morning, you’re already counting down the hours till sunset with dry lips, a scratchy throat, and low energy.

By the time you break your Fast, that first sip of water barely satisfies you.
It’s like the water isn’t even absorbing into your body.

What if hydration during the Baha'i Fast wasn’t about drinking more water?

Here’s why:

It’s not about how much water you drink.
It’s about what kind of water you’re drinking.

Dead Water vs. Hydrating Water

Most of us are drinking what I call “dead water.”

This is plain water that’s been stripped of the natural minerals and structure your cells actually recognize and absorb.

When your body doesn’t recognize the water, it doesn’t hold onto it. You just... pee it out. And your cells stay thirsty.

What Is Structured Water (EZ Water) and Why Does It Matter?

What your body really craves is structured, mineralized water—also known as EZ water (Exclusion Zone water).

EZ water naturally carries the structure, minerals and electrolytes your cells need to hydrate at a deeper level. Structured water is found in nature, in things like:

  • Spring water

  • Fresh fruits and vegetables

  • Homemade broths

  • Hydrating teas

You can help create more structured water in your body by:

✅ Adding sea salt or trace minerals to your water
✅ Mixing in citrus like lemon, lime, or orange
✅ Eating more hydrating fruits
✅ Stirring or blending your water to add movement
✅ Leaving your water in the sunlight for gentle, natural energy

☀️ Getting sunlight

🌎 Grounding

🔥 Infrared sauna use (be mindful of doing this during the Fast)

🥕Drinking plant and animal juices

Why Hydrating Foods Matter During the Bahá’í Fast

The real hydration game-changer during the Bahá’í Fast?

The secret to staying hydrated during the Baha'i Fast (no it's not chugging water)

It’s not just what you drink.

It’s what you eat.

Instead of focusing only on water, focus on moisture-rich, mineral-rich foods that hydrate you from the inside out.

This way, you're staying hydrated throughout the day without guzzling glass after glass of water that your body won’t even retain.
